Schools to hold registration

From staff reports

February 5, 2003 - Registration for kindergarten and first-grade students who will be attending Lincoln County Schools for the first time will be held Wednesday, Feb. 12, through Wednesday, March 12, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Parents must register at each school where each child will attend. Students attending the new St. James Elementary may register at the school nearest to their home.

According to North Carolina state law, all children entering public or private schools in North Carolina must present a certified copy of their birth certificate.

In addition, children must show documented evidence of having received five doses of DTP/DT shots, four doses of oral polio vaccine, one HiB, two MMR doses and three series of HepB if a child was born after July 1, 1994, with at least 28 days between the first and second dose.

A health assessment should be completed by parents’ health care provider prior to the start of school but must be completed no later than 30 days after school starts or the child will be excluded from school. Assessment forms are available at each school.

Parents of children who may need these immunizations are urged to take their child to their health care provider or to the local health department immediately to complete these series before school begins.

For more information about kindergarten registration, contact Sherry Hoyle at 704-732-2261.
