Registry to honor astronauts
From staff reports
February 3, 2003 - A local funeral home is helping those mourning the loss of the seven astronauts who died aboard the space shuttle Columbia Saturday.
“At a time like this, you wish you could do something,” says Bud Warlick, owner of Warlick Funeral Home.
The funeral home has placed a patriotic register book — often used for veterans — in the lobby. Anyone who would like to sign it is welcome to do so.
Warlick says signing the book is a way of showing support for the families of the fallen heroes.
“It’s just a little something, a lot like sending flowers at a funeral,” he says.
The flag in front of the funeral home is lowered to half staff.
“This has been such a terrible situation. The whole nation is grieving,” says Warlick.
The register book, adorned with an American flag, will be available to be signed during any time that the funeral home is open.
If the lobby’s lit up, the doors are open,” Warlick says.
Arrangements on who should receive the book on behalf of the astronauts are incomplete.
Warlick Funeral Home is located at 125 Dave Warlick Drive off of South Generals Boulevard.
