A recipe for remembering
By AMY WADSWORTH, Staff Writer

Sally Rudisill leafs through the pages of her “Lincoln House Cook Book.”
She points out some of the popular recipes that members of the community enjoyed.
The Lincoln House Restaurant which used to be owned by Rudisill and was founded by her late husband Hugh “Chunk” was a popular place for Lincoln folk.
Rudisill remembers the lines out the door on Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving. There was also big crowds on Sundays, she said.
Now Rudisill’s memories of 26 years of having the restaurant are living on with in food recipes that used to be served.
“I decided to put out a book because I have gotten so many calls about the food and recipes,” Rudisill said.
The book has such recipes as the famous Lincoln House Punch, Rudisill’s chicken salad, Salmon Croquette, Lincoln House Rolls and the Cheese Date Nut Puffs.
The Lincoln House Restaurant was founded July 26, 1967 and, like the county, was named after Major General Benjamin Lincoln who fought in the Revolutionary War.
Rudisill said she and her husband always dreamed of opening a good family restaurant.
“My husband always loved to work in food and with the public,” Rudisill said.
It took Rudisill two years to compile all of the recipes together and one year to get it published.
She had a friend type it up for her, her daughter who is a retired English teacher to proof it and Rusty Cornwell with Commercial Printing to publish it.
Rudisill did all the artwork on the cover and for the different sections of food categories.
The forward of the book is in honor of her husband with a picture of him drinking coffee.
“He used to get breakfast ready and then take his coffee to sit in the back of the restaurant,” Rudisill said.
There were 500 copies printed of the cookbook and 200 were placed in the Lincoln Medical Center gift shop. So far, Rudisill said 116 copies have sold.
The book is being sold at a cost of $10.
