Denver will soon have neighborhood shopping.

WestPointe Shoppes located on N.C. 16 south of Denver is scheduled to open mid-March. Mighty Dollar, a discount retailer offering some brand name merchandise will be located in the center of the complex, and will occupy 8,500 square feet.

Mighty Dollar is a Charlotte franchise company with merchandise priced at a $1 or less. It is scheduled to open April 1.

The full project is a 20,000 square foot retail center.

Construction began in September 2003 and was due to open this month, but has been delayed.

Robert Willard with Bravoe Development in Cornelius said construction delays were due to factors such as the weather and a delay in obtaining steel material.

He is very excited about the opening of the shops.

“Our primary focus is to be a center for the community,” he said.

Willard also said he is excited about the location.

“Highway 16 is a primary artery in this area,” he said.

There is no word yet as to what other retail will be included in the center.

However, Willard is hoping for some sort of a restaurant.

Both ends of the center have patios off the building.

“The units on the end would be good to support a restaurant with outdoor seating,” he said.

Willard also expressed the idea of having a furniture store where the patio could be used for seasonal furniture.

WestPointe Shoppes will be located off West Pointe Drive and will have a covered walkway in front of the stores.

The project, which Willard expects to cost in excess of $2 million when complete, is hoping to bring more business to the area.

“I think the potential is here and the area is only going to continue to grow,” he said.

Willard said in his opinion there is not enough retail in the East Lincoln area.

“I hope they welcome the addition,” he said.

Currently, there are seven spaces left for retailers. Mighty Dollar is taking five of the spaces.
