Fiddler to perform Jan. 14

From staff reports

January 6, 2003 - The Lincoln County Concert Association will welcome a young fiddler to the Citizens Center stage Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

April Verch is a performer who features a wide variety of musical styles. She is an award-winning fiddler with a virtuosity, masterful technique, and a sense of fun.

A trio of piano, guitar, and percussion accompany the young performer as she fiddles her way through a repertoire featuring traditional and contemporary tunes and her step dancing.

Verch, 22, studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. under fiddlers Matt Glaser and Darol Anger. Among her many honors, she has performed for the Millennium Celebrations at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and she was a guest at Chet Atkins’ tribute in Nashville, along with several Grand Ole Opry stars.

Her accomplishments also include titles such as Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Champion (1997) and Canadian Open Fiddle Champion (1998).

Verch has four albums today. Those recordings, “Springtime Fiddle” (1990), “Fiddle Talk” (1995), and “Fiddelicious” (1998) have earned her airplay on radios all over the world.

The concert is free to LCCA members. Tickets are available at the box office the night of the concert. Tickets for adults tickets are $15; student tickets are $5.
