First baby of 2003 arrives

Elizebeth Sierra

By JEREMY ASHTON, LTN Staff Writer

January 3, 2003 -
Lincoln County’s Baby New Year arrived a day late, but her parents were simply happy to have her.

Elizebeth Sierra Huggins was born Thursday at 7:27 a.m. in Lincoln Medical Center. At birth, she weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.

Elizebeth’s mother, Donna L. Jones, 25, of 189 Lawing St., was “a little woozy” Thursday afternoon but resting in the hospital’s maternity ward with her new daughter cradled in her arms.

Jones and Elizebeth’s father, Samuel T. Huggins, said having a daughter born so close to New Year’s Day didn’t carry special significance for them, but they were glad for everyone else that she could be Lincoln’s first baby of 2003.

“I’m just overjoyed that she’s all right and that she’s healthy,” Jones said.

The mother and father arrived at LMC right at 5 a.m. Thursday, a day before Jones’ due date. Once they arrived, everything unfolded quickly with Jones delivering by cesarean section.

The couple also has a 16-month-old daughter named Erica.

For having the first baby of 2003, Jones and Huggins received a basket of presents for Elizebeth and themselves from LMC and several businesses. The basket included gift certificates, stuffed animals, towels, diapers and a baby calendar. Jones will also get a dozen roses and a child safety seat for her newborn daughter.

The items in the gift package were donated by Dot’s Crafts, A Cut Above, House of Pizza, Wal-Mart, The Drug Store, LMC’s gift shop, Autobell Car Wash, Hallmark Shoppe and the fire marshall’s office.
