Hallman to run for clerk
By ANDIE LEATHERMAN, LTN Staff Writer
Jan. 30, 2002 - A former Lincoln County commissioner will make a bid for the Lincoln County Clerk of Court’s office.
Republican Jim Hallman said Monday he will run for the four-year position.
“At this time in my life, this will be my last opportunity perhaps for that. I feel I need to make the effort,” Hallman said.
He is the fourth candidate to throw his hat in the ring. Democrats Patsy Black and Sonny McSwain and independent Janet Carpenter Spears have announced.
Long time clerk Pam Huskey, a Democrat, is retiring later this year. Huskey has served as clerk since 1986.
A political veteran, Hallman was elected to the commission in 1992. He chaired the commission in 1999 and 2000, losing in the GOP primary in 2000.
Hallman is production planning manager at Belding Hausman, Inc. a Lincolnton yarn manufacturer. The managerial experience would be an asset in the clerk’s
office, he said.
Hallman currently chairs the Department of Social Services board though he said he may have to step down from that position if elected.
Hallman was a charter member of West Lincoln Optimist Club and volunteered at the North Brook Volunteer Fire Department.
He and wife Wanda live in western Lincoln County.
The position pays $69,900 annually.
