Congratulations to chamber honorees

Published November 17, 2003

Congratulations to those volunteers and community leaders honored at the Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of  Commerce annual banquet. Recipients of the Man of the Year and Woman of the Year were exceptional selections this year.

Scott Carpenter, owner of Modern Electric and Plumbing Supply, is known for a large variety of volunteer activities which included the Boy Scouts, the YMCA, service on the Lincoln Medical Center Board, Hospice, the Lincoln Arts Council, Habitat for Humanity and Christian Ministries. He’s a friend to many; a devoted father, husband and church member.

Rebecca Engle, a guidance counselor at West Lincoln Middle School selected by the Business and Professional Women of Lincolnton, has served selflessly in numerous church, community and professional organizations. She developed the CIA program (Caught in Action Doing Good) at West Lincoln Middle School and organized a computer skills camp for at-risk students. She also developed the Jumpstart Program to assist sixth-graders for transition to middle schools and formed a peer helper group known as Carekids. She received a very passionate endorsement for her ability to influence the lives of others.

The Lincoln Economic Development Association named R-Anell Housing Group industry of the year. R-Anell has been a valued employee over the years, and brought some good news to Cherryville early this year when it announced the re-opening of a plant that had been closed for two years.

Cristina Arlow, who works in the Hispanic community as a translator and who has been active in many different volunteer organizations, was named Small Business Person of the Year.

Congratulations also go to Gaye Howard, who was named Volunteer of the Year, and Dawn Wilson, New Member of the Year.

The chamber gave a special award to long-serving member Marty Eaddy, who first started serving the chamber 17 some years ago. The chamber  established a fitting new award with the trophy Eaddy received. Each year it will be rotated among winners of the annual spelling bee.
