The Timken Co., a major contributor to Lincoln County community endeavors,
has come through with another substantial grant for Lincoln Charter School. The latest $10,000 gift will be used for physical science and biotechnology equipment, making it possible for the school to have the core equipment for scientific experiments, as well as sophisticated equipment.
“This is an enormous first start,” said Margaret Venable, the school’s science advisor who wrote the grant proposal.
The high school’s science lab is only a year old, and it was built with the grant in mind.
The lab has pipes and connections that make a solar water heater possible. With the new grant money students can now make the heater.
The Charter School, a relatively new venture left to its own resources for capital improvements, is particularly in need of outside funding with an enrollment of some 500
students. The Timken Co. apparently recognizes such needs. It recently covered $100,000 of the cost of the school’s new gym.
It’s a tribute to the school that it has projected itself as a positive, progressive institution worthy of such grants.
Thanks to the Timken Co. for its corporate citizenship. The company’s many contributions to this community has made a huge difference to many important institutions, especially
the Charter School.
