North Lincoln Knights

March 15, 2002 - North Lincoln Knights. It has a nice ring to it.

What’s really pleasing about the selection of this name is that it was made by the students who will be attending Lincoln County’s newest school, scheduled to open in 2003. A 25-member committee of students who will attend the school chose the name and did the research. Assistant Superintendent Ed Hatley said the students took their mission seriously. “I have never seen kids do so much research,” he said.

The committee voted on four names — Patriots, Bulldogs, Vikings and Knights. The students settled on the name “Knights” because no other school in the area has that mascot. That’s a good reason. Another good reason is that it sounds good with North Lincoln. The best reason is that it offers all sorts of fun possibilities for costumes and logos.

That choice wasn’t nearly as difficult as coming up with the of the new school. Some were disappointed in the name “North Lincoln,” but no doubt the school board made that choice responsibly after hearing from advocates throughout the area. Let’s get used to that name and look forward to 2003 when the “Knights” will take their place in our community along with the Wolves, the Rebels and the Mustangs.
