Regulating crematories

Investigators in Georgia have now found more than 300 corpses randomly tossed about grounds surrounding a crematory that had been out of repair for years.

The crematory’s operator has been arrested on theft-by-deception charges for allegedly taking payment for cremations not performed and giving families wood chips or cement powder instead of ashes.

Economic crisis in the textile industry

Feb. 01, 2002 - The U.S. textile industry is suffering from a devastating economic crisis, and Lincoln County is feeling the impact.

Last year, 103 textile mills closed and almost 67,000 jobs were lost nationwide, according to the American Textile Manufacturers Institute. Since Sept. 11, the crisis has worsened as bankruptcies triggered the loss of nearly 24,000 textile jobs, the institute said.
