Editorial - January 2002

No reason to complain

Jan. 23, 2002 0 Nearly two years have passed and Lincolnton’s experience with mixed beverage permits is not quite what either the proponents or opponents forecast. Lincoln schools looking out for low performers

Jan. 14, 2002 - Academic success in our public schools all to often is focused on the top performers. We love to see how good our SAT scores improve and how many scholarships we can get for our brightest students. So, it is refreshing to find that here in Lincoln County a lot of attention has been focused on low performers who are at a constant risk to drop out of school altogether.

Naming a new school

Jan. 04, 2002 - Lincoln County School Board members have a tough assignment in coming up with an appropriate name for a new high school. No doubt they will get plenty of suggestions. Whatever choice is made won’t please everyone.

School board members will seek advice from the public Monday but won’t vote on the name until their February meeting. Anyone may offer their own recommendations at the 7 p.m. meeting, which will be held at the administrative office on General’s Boulevard. The new high school, now going up on Lee Lawing Road, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2003.
