ASHEVILLE — Jerry Max Elmore, 63, of 41C Pisgah View Apartments, formerly of Lincolnton, died July 21, 2004. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked in maintenance at Charleston Naval Hospital.
Survivors include two aunts and two uncles.

Edna Self
Edna Poovey Self, 87, of Lincoln Nursing Center, formerly of Laboratory Road, died July 23, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at River View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was retired from Rhyne Mills.
Survivors include a brother, Kermit Poovery of Lincolnton and two sisters, Myrtle Reep of Iron Station and Mayzelle Cook of Lincolnton.

Warren Lester
CONOVER — Warren Alvin Lester Jr., 88, of Prestige Drive, died July 24, 2004. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the church.
He was born in Coweta County, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Travis Lester of the home; two sons, Warren Lester of Newton and Ronald Lester of Maiden; two daughters, Lynda Amsbaugh of Newton and Yvonne Wilbanks of Roswell, Ga.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.

Born in Cleveland County, he was retired from Geymont Construction Company and was a member of Knob Creek United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Grunzke Hartman; a son, Chris Hartman of Vale; two daughters, Ronette Starnes of Hickory and Jane Greene of Casar; two step-daughters, Christine Ferry of Greensboro and Tabetha Procopis of London, England; a brother, J.S. Hartman Jr. of Vale; three grandchildren; a step-granddaughter and a step-great grandson.

DENVER — Jesse Junior Holbrooks, 78, of 3026 N. Hwy. 16, died July 24, 2004. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at Webbs Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery with DAV Graveside Rites.
Born in Lincoln County, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

VALE — Audrey Jean Chapman Crump, 44, of 605 Duffy Powell Lane, died July 25, 2004. Arrangements are incomplete at Warlick Funeral Home.

Paul Eugene Peeler
Mr. Paul Eugene Peeler, age 75 of 123 E. Dixon St. in Lincolnton, NC died Thursday, July 22, 2004.
A full NC Air National Guard Military graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Hollybrook Cemetery. The family received friends Saturday, July 24, 2004 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Peeler was born on Aug. 3, 1928 in Lincoln County. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Mr. Peeler was preceded in death by his parents, R.V. and Gladys Hoover Peeler and two sons, Paul Eugene Peeler, Jr. and Monty Dale Peeler. He was Senior Master Sergeant upon retirement after 37 years as a supply technician for the NC Air National Guard and the reserve of the US Air Force with the 145th Supply Squadron. Sergeant Peeler had been honored to receive numerous ribbons and meritorious awards during his military service. He served his country loyally.
Survivors include: Shirley Peeler, his high-school sweetheart and loving wife of 56 years; his beloved children, one son, Gary Eugene Peeler and wife, Lynda of Charlotte, NC; one daughter, Kippen Southerland and husband, Bill of Waxhaw, NC; three grandsons, Jeremy Peeler and wife, Sherry of Rock Hill, SC, William Southerland and Paul Southerland of Waxhaw, NC; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Peeler of Charlotte, NC, Jillian Myers and husband, Jason of Raleigh, NC, Katherine Southerland of Waxhaw, NC; four great-grandchildren, Justin Peeler of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Christopher Archie of Rock Hill, SC, Andrew Myers of Raleigh, NC, Meredith Peeler of Rock Hill, SC; one brother, Donald Peeler of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Janice Bentley and husband, John of Lincolnton, NC.
