Keith Smith
GREENSBORO — Keith Napoleon “Round†Smith, 42, of 437 Arlington St., formerly of Lincolnton, died July 7, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Ebony & White’s Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Tucker’s Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.
Born in Lincoln County, he was employed by Auto Bell.
Survivors include his mother, Ella Mae Smith of Charlotte; his step-mother, Joann Wilson of Stanley; three brothers, Marcus Smith of Charlotte, Brian Wilson of Florida and Robert Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif. and three sisters, Amy Glenn and Sherry Wilson both of Stanley and Kendrick Wilson of Virginia.
Ralph Jenks
VALE — Ralph Farrell Jenks, 82, of 8365 S. Hebron Church Road, died July 10, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, where he was a member. Masonic graveside services will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a farmer and a member of the Cooksville Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Jenks; a son, Bobby Jenks of Vale; a daughter, Cheryl Gantt of High Point; four grandchildren, Ashley Jenks, Angela Jenks, Britney Gantt and Zachary Gantt and a great-grandson.

Olin Mathis
VALE — Olin Mathis Jr., 74, of 473 Dave Peterson Lane, died July 9, 2004. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, he was a sub-contractor in the construction business and was a farmer in Lincoln County.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Cook Mathis of the home; three sons, Danny Mathis of Vale, Rocky Mathis and Scott Mathis both of Lincolnton; a brother, Garner Mathis of Lincolnton; a sister, Nora Homesley of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ollie Davis
SHELBY — Ollie Mae Davis, 86, of 1455 Williamson Road, died July 9, 2004.

Anita Smith
Anita Carpenter Smith, 51, of 180 Lakewood Road, died July 10, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Gainsville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 today at the church.
Born in Gaston County, she was employed by Bassett Furniture as a computer fabric cutter.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Smith of the home; three sons, Ray Smith of Crouse, Jackie Smith and Doug Whitesides both of Lincolnton; two brothers, Terry Carpenter and Carlton Carpenter of Bessemer City; a sister, Barbara Nichols of Bessemer City and a granddaughter, Ashlee Smith.

Ralph Hovis
Major L. Ralph Hovis, 82, of 531 Battleground Road, died July 11, 2004. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a retired police officer with the Lincolnton Police Department and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mayzell T. Hovis of the home; two sons, Johnny Hovis of Titusville, Fla. and Randy Hovis of Iron Station; a daughter, Vickie Abernethy of Lincolnton; a brother, Melvin Hovis of Lincolnton; nine grandchildren, Kim Campbell, Anna Morgan, Mark Hovis, Courtney Hovis, Brad Hovis, Trent Hovis, Scott Abernethy, Cassandra Abernethy and Jamie Abernethy and 13 great-grandchildren.

STANLEY — Robert Lee Brooks, 53, of 713 N. Buckoak St., died July 3, 2004. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Mt. Holly. Burial followed in St. James United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Charles Owens
SOUTH CAROLINA — Charles Richard Owens, 74, of 5055 Hilander Drive, died July 11, 2004. Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Beaufort, SC. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. Interment will follow in the cemetery.
Born in Cherryville, he was a retired house painter and a veteran of Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Betsy Owens of the home; a daughter, Patricia Owens of Beaufort, SC; a brother, Larry Owens of Cherryville and a sister, Hilda Craig of Vale.
