Hal Bess
CHERRYVILLE — Richard Hal Bess, 84, of Willis, Texas, formerly of Cherryville, died June 1, 2004. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the services.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired contractor for Raymond Lumber Company.
Survivors include two sister, Helen Forneberger of Cherryville and Betty Wright of Houston, Texas.
Carpenters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Nardy Hoyle
CHERRYVILLE — Norris “Nardy” Bernard Hoyle, 69, of 113 Delview Road, died June 2, 2004. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Carpenters Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was co-owner of Hoyle Construction, member and former director of Hoyle Historical Homestead and former member of Cherryville City Council.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Sellers; a son, Bence Hoyle; two daughters, Vickie Spurling of Cherryville and Sarah Seawright of Cherryville; six grandchildren, Christie Ford, Kent Spurling, Haley Hoyle, Jake Hoyle, Drew Hoyle and Jessi Hoyle and four great-grandchildren.

Raydell McRee
MAIDEN — Raydell Frye McRee, 80, of 411 N. First Avenue, died June 2, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Martins Lutheran Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home.
Born in Catawba County, she was retired from Kayser Roth Hosiery.
Survivors include her husband, Rob McRee of the home; a son, Dale McRee of Maiden; a daughter, Sandra Eades of Cumming, Ga.; a sister, Bebe Fulbright of Maiden; four grandsons, Mark Eades, Justin Eades, Brent McRee and Ryan McRee and four great-grandsons.
Memorials may be made to St. Martins Lutheran Church and/or the American Cancer Society.

Bessie Houser
VALE — Bessie Geneva Gantt Heavner, 93, of 7624 Hwy. 27 west, died June 2, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hebron United Methodist church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a retired teacher and homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Jim Houser of Charlottesville, Va. and six grandchildren, Jeffrey Houser, Melyssa Houser, Justin Houser, Michael Yarboro, Meggon Yarboro and Krista Loveau and seven great-grandchildren.

Helen Smith
DALLAS — Helen Smith, 48, of Blue Tick Lane, died June 2, 2004.
Arrangements are incomplete at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

W. Hunsucker
NEWTON — Winnifred Rankin Hunsucker, 75, of Newton died June 2, 2004. A private service will be held at a later date.
She was born in Gaston County.
Drum Funeral Home and Cremations in Conover is in charge of arrangements.

Benny Caudle
Benny Charles Caudle Sr., 62, of 1882 Gastonia Hwy., died June 3, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from American Effird.
Survivors include his wife, Gaye Stroud Caudle of the home; a son, Perry Caudle of Lincolnton; his mother, Clarine Cline of Lincolnton and a grandson, Landon Caudle.

Jerry Hubbard
MAIDEN — Jerry Wayne Hubbard, 44, of 4217 Kent Street, died June 3, 2004. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He was born in Russell County, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Betty G. Hubbard of the home; two sons, Kenneth Hubbard and Joseph Hubbard of the home; a daughter, Misty Allen of Maiden; two brothers, Mark Compton of Garden Creek, Va. and Kenny Hubbard of Hickory; four sisters, Virginia Stamey of Maiden, Annie Charles of Vansant, Va., Missy Charles of Garden City, Va. and JoAnn Ratliff of Gruday, Va.; a grandson, Coylte Allen and a granddaughter, Sarah Hubbard.

Mary Paysour
Mary Knox Rash Paysour, 92, of the Brian Center in Gastonia, died June 3, 2004. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Vicki Flowers and Ronnie Hull and two sisters, Elizabeth Ledwell of Lowell and Renee Carpenter of Lincolnton.

William Saunders
Rev. William Darrell Saunders, 72, of Highland Bluff Court, died June 3, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. veteran and was a pastor for 48 years and was currently serving as interim pastor at First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gertha Saunders of the home; three daughters, Lorrie Alshaer and Sharon Starr both of Lincolnton and Lee Ann Beach of White River, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Jason Beard, Daniel Alshaer, Allison Owens, Erin Starr, Amy Starr and Jessica Beach; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Reid Saunders of New Bern and Gene Saunders of Lincolnton and two sisters, Sue Chapman of Lincolnton and Diane Yount of Cullowhee.
Burke Mortuary in Maiden is in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Allran
Mrs. Hazel Rucker Allran, age 83 of Lincolnton died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Cardinal Health Care.
Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Rhyne and Rev. Jason Royal officiating. Burial followed in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family received friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday night at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Allran was born on September 12, 1921 in Lincolnton, NC, daughter of the late Lester Rucker and Stacey Schronce Rucker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Allran and her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Huffstetler.
Mrs. Allran worked as a C.N.A. at the Lincoln Nursing Center until her retirement. She will be missed for the love and kindness she gave to everyone she met. She loved her family and was a guiding light for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: one son, Ralph Allran of Lincolnton, NC; grandson, Scott Allran and his wife, Cheryl of York, SC; grandson, Todd Allran of Lincolnton, NC; great-grandchildren, Alex, Justin, Gabe and Jaine Allran who were the light of her life. She also had many nieces and nephews.
