Mustangs fall to Smoky Mountain in third round 78-69

The East Lincoln Mustangs boys varsity basketball team had its season ended with a 78-69 loss to Smoky Mountain in the third round of the 2A state playoffs on Friday in Sylva.
Smoky Mountain led 21-17 at the end of the first quarter and held a 34-32 lead at halftime.
Smoky Mountain outscored East Lincoln 30-23 in the fourth quarter to take the win and advance to the regional semifinal game against Shelby on Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
The Mustangs (21-8) were led by freshman Chazz Surratt’s 26 points. Senior Tyler Brock, the lone senior on East Lincoln’s roster, finished the game with 24 points and six 3-pointers.
Smoky Mountain’s Cal Raleigh scored 26 points, matching Surratts game-high total. Spencer Norris scored 25 points and Mark Thompson added 11 for Smoky Mountain.
