The Lincolnton Lady Wolves girls varsity basketball team picked up a 43-30 win over No. 14 Smoky Mountain in the first round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 2A state playoffs on Monday in Lincolnton.
Bridget Derr led No. 3 Lincolnton (22-4) with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Alexis Killian scored 13 points with six steals.
Lincolnton hosts No. 6 East Burke (23-5) today at 7 p.m. in a second-round clash.
Lincolnton’s boys varsity team and the West Lincoln Lady Rebels girls varsity team were not as lucky, and both exited the 2A state playoffs with first-round losses on Monday.
The No. 9 Wolves fell to No. 8 Pisgah 71-48 in Canton after No. 13 West Lincoln fell to the No. 4 Pisgah girls 65-37.
Will Saine led Lincolnton with 21 points against Pisgah. Jesse Alexander scored a game-high 30 points for Pisgah.
Pisgah’s boys team moves on to face No. 1 Smoky Mountain in a second-round matchup today. Pisgah’s girls host No. 5 East Rutherford.
