Andrews joins Phi Kappa Phi
Rachel Andrews of Denver was recently initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi — the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
Andrews is studying Art History/Criticism/Conservation at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Andrews is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

Peace Poster Contest
Do you know when Lions Club International implemented its Peace Poster Contest? 1988. Although the Lincolnton Lions Club did not participate in its inaugural year, it has been sponsoring Peace Posters since 1995.
The county’s public, private and charter middle school art teachers, their students and parents look forward to its sponsorship each year.
Congratulations to all of the 2012-13 Lions Club International Peace Poster winners, in alphabetical order by their middle schools, below:

• East Lincoln Middle: Mackenzie Marino – 1st Place
• Lincoln Charter: Levia Workman – 1st Place; Ashley Green – 2nd Place; Zach Helfin – 3rd Place
• Lincoln Middle: Corinthian Irish Sturgis – 1st Place; Destine Self – 2nd Place; Jayle Rhodes – 3rd Place
• Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy: Cody Cline – 1st Place; Nathan Keener – 2nd Place; Hobie Rhodes – 3rd Place
• North Lincoln Middle: Kelsey Fay – 1st Place; Maise Colligen – 2nd Place; Skylar Harris – 3rd Place
• West Lincoln Middle: Vincent Melendez – 1st Place; Diana Nova – 2nd Place; Parker Chapman – 3rd Place

Each of the local winners received a monetary prize at the Dec. 11 meeting from Lion Charles Stevens and Lion Jimmie Bowers, Club president and treasurer, respectively. Also, Kelsey Fay ( NLMS) and Corinthian Irish Sturgis’ (LMS) Peace Posters were chosen second and third place in the District 31-A competition out of 53 Lions, stretching from Murphy to Lincolnton.
