The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual membership banquet Thursday evening, during which a slate of awards will be handed out and guests will be entertained by comedian Kelly Swanson of High Point.
“Mrs. Swanson is an award-winning storyteller, comedian and motivational speaker,” Chamber President Ken Kindley said of the evening’s guest speaker, who will perform her one-woman show, “Who Hijacked My Fairy Tale?”.
magazine has called her one of North Carolina’s funniest women, he added.
The event will also see the passing of the gavel of leadership from 2012 Chair of the Board Buddy Collins of Edward Jones to Melisa Harrison of 1st Advantage Insurance Group.
Outgoing board members will also be recognized.
In addition, awards will be presented to the Chamber’s “Volunteer of the Year,” “New Member of the Year,” “Ambassador of the Year” and “Small-business Person of the Year.”
The Lincolnton Rotary Club and the Business and Professional Women’s Organization will present their man and woman of the year awards, while the “Industry of the Year” will be announced by the Lincoln Economic Development Association.
Kindley told the Times-News on Tuesday that he is expecting a big crowd for the event, which starts at 7 p.m. at the Citizens Center in downtown Lincolnton.
Mitchem’s Kitchen will be catering the meal.
Chamber members interested in attending the banquet who have yet to reserve their seats may do so through midday Wednesday, Kindley said.
