District Court Judge Meredith Shuford of Lincolnton easily defeated a challenge from fellow Democrat and former Assistant District Attorney Gwynn Radeker of Shelby on Tuesday.
Radeker talked with the Times-News late Tuesday and congratulated his opponent.
“She ran a good campaign and deserved to win,” he said.
“I’m sorry I had other hurdles in my life that kind of prevented me from campaigning.
“I wish her well; I hope she does a good job.”
Radeker’s campaign received a setback last month when federal authorities announced a plea deal with his wife who was under investigation for Medicaid fraud.
Shuford, who recently received certification for juvenile justice, carried both Lincoln and Cleveland counties by a significant margin.
She could not be reached for comment.
Times-News staff members Frank Taylor and Jenna-Ley Harrison contributed to this report.
