Jennifer Sills / Special to LTNThe clouds parted and the sun shone so participants could watch the “transit of Venus” with special viewers handed out at the office of Lincolnton dentist Robert T. Cloninger on Tuesday. During the rare event, the planet Venus crossed directly between the Earth and the Sun. Although dangerous to observe with unprotected eyes, looking through the special viewers shows a small dot passing across the face of the Sun.
