Nellie Simmons
Nellie Pearl Devine Simmons, 83, of Hwy. 150 west, died May 9, 2004. Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden. Burial followed in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery.
She was born in Lincoln County.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Parker of Maiden and Jerri Smith of Lincolnton; three brothers, Ernest Devine of Wilmington, Bill Devine of Maiden and Glenn Devine of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Stella Ikard of Newton and Rev. Betty Baxter of Maiden; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Gerald Lail
HICKORY — Alvin “Gerald†Lail, 56, of Wrong Road, died May 10, 2004. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Burke Mortuary in Newton.
He was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy H. Lail of the home; his mother, Pearl M. Lail of Hickory; a daughter, Lisa Waugh of Hickory; a brother, David Lail of Sebring, Fla.; a sister, Susan Slater of Old Fort and three grandsons, Justin Waugh, Alex Gouge and Tyler Waugh.

Josephine Moose
NEWTON — Josephine Sigmon Moose, 78, of Mt. Olive Church Road, died May 9, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, she was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Moose of the home; a son, Tony Garrison of Catawba; two grandsons, Aaron Garrison and Ryan Garrison; three great-grandsons and three sisters, Ruby Travis of Newton, Frances Setzer of Catawba and Nancy Punch of Maiden.

Fred Scism
CHERRYVILLE — Fred H. “Bull†Scism, 78, of 1800 Requa Road, died May 11, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Born in Gaston County, he was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers, was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville and served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
Survivors include a daughter, Fredia Hudson of Cherryville; two grandsons, Ryan Hudson and Wesley Hudson; a granddaughter, Brooke Kasem and a great-grandson.

Glenn Lackey
CHERRYVILLE — Wilbur Glenn Lackey, 61, of 111 Harrilson Road, died May 11, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at North Brook Baptist Church, where he was a member. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a former truck driver for John Arthur Trucking.
Survivors include four sisters, Jean Gantt, Katie Dellinger, Patsy Lackey all of Cherryville and Bobbie Tallent of Vale.

Charles Dwayne Elmore, 49, died May 10, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Unity Moravian Church, where he was a member. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home in Clemmons.
Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from RJ Reynolds Tobacco.
Survivors include his wife, Becky W. Elmore and two sons, Brian Elmore and Daniel Elmore.
