The East Lincoln Mustangs have a new head coach Melvin Morrison.
Morrison is a former track star of Lincolnton High School and graduate of Pfeiffer College.
He has coached at East Lincoln Middle School for the last 10 years, winning seven conference championships. Last year, Morrison assisted Kevin Reep.
Morrison is thrilled with his being named track coach for the Mustangs.
“Not many coaches get the opportunity to coach student-athletes for up to as many as six years. I feel fortunate,†he said.
The Mustangs chemistry is what makes them so successful according to Morrison.
“We’re solid in sprints, distance and field events, but we have no superstars. That’s what makes this team special,†he said.
In the Mustangs’ most recent four-team meet the boys captured first place posting 137 points, South Point came in second with 77, North Gaston recorded 42 points, while Berry Academy had 5.
The boys team is now 15-0 on the season. The girls finished second to North Gaston who had 114 points. The Lady Mustangs raked in 74 points, while South Point finished with 41. They are now 11-4 on the year.
