Jackie Schenck knows hair.
Actually that is probably an understatement.
The 32-year-old stylist, who’s worked on the hair of several celebrities, recently moved from Las Vegas to Lincolnton.
She has sculpted the locks of Belinda Carlisle, members of N’Sync and Olympic gold medalist Summer Sanders. She’s done work for fashion shows for the Gap, Newport Leather and the Billboard Music Awards.
The list does not end there.
Schenck was voted Redken’s “Hairdresser of the Year†for 1999-2000 in Las Vegas, beating out more than 2,000 others.
She also was the stylist and did make-up for Dodge Viper advertisements which appeared in Rolling Stone magazine.
Most recently, she did hair and make-up on the hit MTV reality show “Real World: Las Vegas.â€
Schenck now works at The Healing Touch Salon/Spa, located at 2107 E. Main St.
She said she was ready for a change of pace.
“Vegas is busy and I’m slowing down now,†Schenck said.
She started out at Marinello Academy in Las Vegas. She is now a Redken Specialist and a Sexy Hair Educator.
Most of her styling techniques were perfected at Destination Salon and Spa in Las Vegas.
Once she became hairstylist of the year, she said her career really blossomed.
“I was so ecstatic,†she said. “I can’t explain it.â€
Although Schenck’s career has been extensive, she does not like to gloat.
“I let other people do that for me,†she said.
But becoming a stylist and make-up artist was not always in her plans.
“I was going to become an educator for K through 5 and I was a pre-school teacher for awhile,†she said.
But she says hair and make-up was what she really wanted to do.
“It’s a lot of fun and you get to meet new people,†she said.
“Once your hair is done you feel better about yourself,†she added.
Coming to Lincolnton was a good choice for her, she said.
“This gives me an outlet for my creativity,†she said. “I wanted something intimate.â€
It’s quite a chance from the salon she worked at in Las Vegas, which employed about 30 stylists.
Schenck hopes to really bring something to Lincolnton.
She would like to do some fashion shows and even have a make-over each month where she would pick through candidates and do color, cut and make-up.
Schenck offers 20 percent off a first-time hair-cut, because she knows the anxiety some people experience when switching stylists.
A color and cut cost $70. Just a cut is $30.
