5K Run/Walk planned

The second Annual Abernethy Automotive December Dash 5K Run/Walk to benefit Hospice of Lincoln County will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004.
Walkers and runners interested in participating can download an application at Abernethy’s Web site: www.abernethyadvantage.com Applications are also available at City of Lincolnton offices, Data Imaging & Associatins, Denver Mechanical, Gaston College, Fausto Coffeee/Ride-A-Bike, First United Methodist Church; Hospice of Lincoln County; Kate McCall, Lincoln County Family YMCA; Rhyne Financial; Rusty & Co. and Srpinghill Galleries.
The entry fee is $15 if the application is postmarked by Dec. 4, and $20 after that date.
The starting and finish line is at Gaston College. The race follows a route along South Academy and around the Kennedy Drive area eventually crossing Main Street on Poplar and connecting with the Rail Trail.
The race was launched to have the Abernethy dealership sponsor a community-wide event, according to Page Abernethy.
“Our family liked the idea of helping Hospice because of how they helped us with our grandparents,” she said.
The initial reception was good. Organizers set a goal of 50 participants but had more than 100. The event raised $2,000 for Hospice. Top male runner was Bill Shires, and top female finisher was Brittany Beeker.
