MAIDEN — Clarence Avery McAlister, 95, of Maiden, died March 4, 2004. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at East Maiden Baptist Church. Burial followed at Asbury Methodist Church.
He was a builder in Chapel Hill and served as building supervisor for Colony Wood, Booker Creek and Timberlyne subdivisions.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Vaughan of Chapel Hill; two sons, Howard McAlister of Newton and Dwight McAlister of Chapel Hill; seven grandchildren, Donna Rudolph of Huntersville, Dawn Chambers of Mooresville, Stephen Vaughan of Chapel Hill, Howard McAlister Jr. of Newton, Kristy Brown of Atlanta, Ga. and Andrea McAlister of Lexington, Ken. and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made in his honor to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC.

Joyce Deal
NEWTON — Joyce Evelyn Sigmon Deal, 67, of 1984 Bethany Church Road, died March 5, 2004. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today at St. James Lutheran Church, where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include three sons, Joe Sigmon and Rodney Sigmon both of Newton and Kelly Sigmon of Sherrills Ford; one step-daughter, Sherry Wagner of Charlotte; one sister, Lois McAlister of Maiden and four grandchildren, Jessica Sigmon, Taylor Sigmon, Mary Catherine Sigmon and Marshal Sigmon.

Joe Tillman Whitworth, 80, of 702 Louise Avenue, died March 6, 2004. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in South River Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lavonia, Ga., he was a minister and a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hollingsworth Whitworth of the home; one son, Danny Whitworth of Lincolnton; three daughters, Bonnie Sourbeer of Granite Falls, Francine Medlin of Conover and Kathy Crider of Troutman; three brothers, Howard Whitworth, Benny Whitworth and David Whitworth of Lavonia, Ga.; one sister, Mozzell Dye of Lavonia, Ga.; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Lilliard Caldwell
NEWTON — Lilliard Mae Hovis Caldwell, 91, of 2770 Balls Creek Road, died March 6, 2004. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she served in the cafeteria at Balls Creek School.
Survivors include her husband, Littleton Caldwell of the home; one son, Ray Caldwell of Newton; one daughter, Jo Hoyle of Maiden; five grandchildren, Cheryl Sigmon, Stephanie Kale, Cynthia Warlick, Rev. Bruce Caldwell and Stacey Hoyle and nine great-grandchildren.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Temple Holiness Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

BEAUFORT — Peter Beam, 84, of Beaufort, died March 5, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Park with Masonic rites.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korean Conflict, was a member of Franklin Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite, attended Russell Creek Free Will Baptist Church and retired with Civil Service at Cherry Point.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Beam of Beaufort; one daughter, Mary Hall of Newport; three grandchildren, David Robinson, Darywin Robinson and Johnathan Hardesty and six great-grandchildren.

MORGANTON — Esper Earl Beam Jr., 49, of Mountain Meadows Drive, died March 7, 2004. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Beam Family Cemetery.
He was employed by Cooper Electric.
Survivors include his wife, Susanna McNeely Beam of the home; one daughter, Heather Taylor of Lenoir; his parents, Esper Beam Sr. and Fraces Willis Beam both of Morganton; two sisters, Janice Maynard and Robin Willis both of Morganton and three grandchildren, Devon Moore, Andrew Taylor and Connor Taylor.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a homemaker.
