The seasonal drawdown of Lake Norman has begun. This year’s drawdown will be slightly different due to the presence of the Brazilian Elodea weed, which surfaced after Hurricane Francis floodwaters. The weed, which can clog boat motors and water intakes, can be killed by exposure to freezing temperatures.
Duke Power plans to accelerate the drawdown by one month, in order to use the colder months to freeze the Elodea. by Staff Reports
