Lyle Edwards Sr.
GASTONIA – Lyle Roddey Edwards Sr., 87, of 1020 Temple Court, died Nov. 10, 2004. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday at The Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
A native of Gastonia, he was a school teacher an athletic director at Lincolnton High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He also worked for the Gaston Gazette and was a member of First ARP and Andrew ARP churches.
Survivors include one son, Roddey Edwards of Chesnee, S.C.; three grandchildren, Jenny Keenan, Ginger Longworth and Carley Hansman and three great-grandchildren.

PIKESVILLE – Jane Frye Ware, 52, of 9113 Saracen Dr., died Nov. 8, 2004. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Ronnie Lewis
LOWESVILLE — Ronnie Franklin Lewis, 47, died Nov. 9, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Raymer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hills Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. before the service.
Born in Burlington, he was employed with Estes Express Lines for 26 years and was a sergeant in the U.S. Army’s 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Kay Lewis; his parents, Earl and Rebecca Lewis of Graham, N.C.; a brother, David Lewis; two sisters, Kathy Marks and Susan Brown; three step-daughters, Lisa Boyer, Pamela Tolbert and Toni Mahffey; and two grandchildren, Alex and Andrew Sustar.

Roger Hatchett
Roger Dale Hatchett, 41, of 1005 Hatchett Road, died Nov. 10, 2004. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthews United Church of Christ. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. before the service at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked in heating and air conditioning.
Survivors include his wife, Kimberly Dawn Hatchett; two sons, Nicholas Dale Hatchett and Frank Curtis Hatchett of the home; one step-daughter, Michelle Dawn Jackson of the home; and his mother, Dorothy Houk Hatchett of Lincolnton.

NEWTON – Tony Ray Norman, 47, of 2625 Hwy. 10, died Nov. 10, 2004. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
A native of Catawba County, he worked as a truck driver for Synthics Finishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Beerbower of Hickory and Sarah Holcomb of Pontiac, Mich.; father Lewis Norman and step-mother Doris Norman, both of Newton; one brother, Steven Norman of Newton; one sister, Kathy Norman of Newton and two grandchildren, Trevor Norman and Neely Norman.
Helen Brackett
LAWNDALE – Helen Elizabeth Ward Brackett, 91, of 206 West Main Street, died Nov. 9, 2004. Funeral services are 3 p.m. today at Lawndale United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Palm Tree United Methodist Church Cemetery.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Don Brackett of Lawndale; six daughters, Marlene Allen of Clarksville, Ga., Shirley Hord of Shelby, Diane Mauney of Shelby, Betty Towery of Lawndale, Linda Blackburn of Lawndale, Patty Hamrick of Shelby and Bill Ashley of Fallston; one half-sister, Joyce Tesseneer of Shelby; and 14 grandchildren, Andy Allen, Angela Young, Donna Boggs, Mark Brackett, Bobby Hord, Rachel Addison, Patrick Mauney, Jay Mauney, Dennis Towery Jr., John Towery, Barry Blackburn Jr., Wendy Patterson, Traci Proctor and Jason Hamrick and 17 great-grandchildren.

CHARLOTTE – Russell Lee Ballard, 95, died Nov. 10, 2004. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Westmoreland Baptist Church, where he was a member. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
A native of Lincoln County, he was a farmer, formerly worked for Leaksville Woolen Mill and was retired as an estimator for Ervin Construction Company.
Survivors include one daughter, Verlene Paxton of Lexington, S.C.; one son, Reverend Cecil L. Ballard of Stanley; one brother, Wayne Ballard of Denver; seven grandchildren, Gregory Paxton, Kevin Paxton, Timothy Paxton, Cathy Gilbert, Sheila Hord, Dara Ballard and Janet Roberts and seven great-grandchildren.

A native of Albemarle, she worked in sales for Haverty Furniture in Charlotte.
Survivors include two sons, James Michael Gates of Westerville, Ohio and Richard Allen Gates of Houston, Texas; and one sister, Kathy Hinson of Candor.

Ruby Scronce Chapman
Mrs. Ruby Scronce Chapman, age 83, of 3352 Crouse School Road in Crouse, NC died Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. today, Friday, November 12, 2004 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Sloop and Rev. Gene Bruce officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chapman was born on November 1, 1921 in Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethan and Hattie Payseur Scronce, husband, David P. Chapman, two brothers, Hubert and Boyd Scronce, and one sister, Edna Norman. Mrs. Chapman worked in accounting at Belk Department Store.
Survivors include four sons, Howard Chapman of Fort Mill, S.C., Gary Chapman and Michael Chapman, both of Crouse, NC and Larry Chapman of Huntersville, NC; three daughters, Ronda Myers and Meredith Dorsey, both of Fort Mill, S.C. and Renelda Jones of Lexington, S.C.; three brothers, Earl Scronce, William Scronce and Jerry Scronce, all of Lincolnton, NC; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
