Westport plans up in the air

The future of the Westport Golf Course is still unknown.
The course has been closed since February of 2003 but has potential to open with new owners.
“There are no updates,” said Andrew Strand, a member of the Westport Community Association Golf Committee. “We have reached a point where there is a plateau of activity.”
Strand said the plans have not been finalized.
“We are still optimistic but we are in for a long wait,” he said.
Currently the golf course is owned by Wallace Sheft of Atlanta.
Many homeowners have attempted to purchase the golf course in the past, including members of the Westport Community Association Golf Committee.
The current potential buyer is a local resident who lives close to the Denver area. No other information is known.
Les Perry, another Westport Association community member is optimistic that the course will eventually be purchased and re-open.
However, Perry said he is unsure about the possible buyer at this point.
“I’m not optimistic about the current plan, I hear rumors more than anything else,” he said.
However, he said if the transaction does take place, it will be a plus.
Until then committee members and Westport residents simply have to wait.
“There will not be any golf course anytime soon,” Perry said. “It is easily over a year away.”
