Margaret Detter
MAIDEN – Margaret E. Detter, 75, of Pine Tree Drive, died Oct. 24, 2004. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Burke Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Maiden City Cemetery.
She was a native of Gaston County.
Survivors include husband Harold Shuford Detter of Maiden; three sons, Harold Detter of Newton, Mike Detter of Maiden and Dale Detter of Lincolnton; four daughters, Brenda Helms of Charlotte, Linda Nash and Terri Detter, both of Maiden and Carri Davis of Iron Station; three brothers, Jimmy Hall of Elm City and Howard Hall and David Hall, both of Belmont; two sisters, Hazel Rector of Holden Beach and Glyda Godfrey of Gastonia; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Cancer Research Center, Bowman Gray Medical Center, N.C. Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC 27102.

Sandra Burton
ASHEVILLE – Sandra Houser Burton, 54, of 69 Shadowlawn Drive, died Oct. 23, 2004. A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. today at Gainsville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the gravesite.
A native of Lincoln County, she was a hair-dresser.
Survivors include one son, Jonathan Burton of Vale; one daughter, Rhonda Byers of West Union, S.C.; one brother, Dale Houser of Lincolnton; five granddaughters, Jacey Byers, Kaitie Byers, Cassandra Byers, JacquelineByers and Laura Byers.

Marie Bleier
Marie Martin Bleier, 90, of 2252 Country Club Road, died Oct. 23, 2004. Funeral services were 4 p.m. Sunday at Boger City United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church columbarium.
A native of Asch, Germany, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Inge Bleier and Gert Wood, both of Lincolnton and two granddaughters, Lori Rapp of Stanley and Susan Lanier of Lincolnton and 5 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boger City United Methodist Church Ministry.

Hubert Pope
Hubert Herman Pope, Jr., 77, of 213 Rock Creek Drive, died Oct. 24, 2004. Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. today at Long Shoals Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Prospect Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Warlick Funeral Home.
A native of Iredell County, he was owner of Hubert’s Village Pantry in Mt. Holly and was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran.
Survivors include wife Louis Chapman Pope; one son, Johnny L Owens III of Maiden; one daughter, Montrece O. Chapman of Lincolnton; two sisters, Mabel Welbourn of Greer, S.C. and Betty Hawkins of Gastonia; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Frances Sain
CROUSE – Frances Inez Dellinger Sain, 80, of 2257 Pleasant Grove Church Road, died Oct. 26, 2004. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Thursday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
A native of Lincoln County, she worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include husband John E. Sain; one son, Scott Sain of Crouse; one daughter, Joyce Leatherman of Crouse; one brother, Forrest Dellinger of Bessemer City; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Everett Cook
CASAR – Everett Lee Cook, 80, of 6423 Casar Road, died Oct. 26, 2004. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Thursday at Olive Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Olive Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was retired from PPG Industries.
Survivors include one son, Larry Newton of Morganton; one daughter, Kathy Cook of Casar; three sisters Mamie Self and Gertie Walker, both of Casar and Ethel Newton of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Tammy Franklin of Drexel and Travis Deaton of Morganton and 2 great grandchildren, Ivy Deaton and Dwayne Deaton.

Sethus Sipe
NEWTON – Albert Sethus Sipe, 86, of Jack Whitener Road, died Oct. 25, 2004. Funeral services are 4 p.m. today at St. James Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A native of Catawba County, he was a member of Bee Keepers.
Survivors include wife Neva Caldwell Sipe; two sons, Jerry Sipe of Newton and William Earl Sipe of Maiden; one daughter, Carolyn Ender of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Haven Sipe and Lewis Sipe, both of Newton; one sister, Christine Burgess of Newton; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Randall Dorton
Randall Alexander Dorton, 50, died Oct. 24, 2004. A celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Hickory Grove Baptist Church North in Concord.
A native of Concord, he was Director of Engine Operations for Hendrick Motorsports and was NASCAR’s 1986 Engine Builder of the Year.
Survivors include wife Dianne Henry Dorton of Iron Station; one son Jonathan of Concord; mother Lorene of Concord and one brother, Keith of Concord.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Motor Racing Outreach or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Mildred Eller
Mildred Keener Eller, 70, of 3127 Harmon Road, died Oct. 25, 2004. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Matthews United Church of Christ.
A native of Lincoln County, she was a retired school cafeteria cook.
Survivors include two sons, Jack D. Eller Jr. and Michael B. Eller, both of Lincolnton; one daughter, Genelle Boyles of Lincolnton; one brother, Kenneth Keener of North Wilkesboro; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Tony Moore Jr.
Tony Moore Jr., 19, died Oct. 26, 2004. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Warlick Funeral Home.

Ovedia Glover
Ovedia Faye Glover, 70, of 542 Hudson White Trail, died Oct. 25, 2004. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church in Vienna, Ga. Burial will follow in Big Poplar Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The body may be viewed tonight from 5 to 6 at Ebony and White’s Funeral Service.
A native of Chiefland, Fla., she was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church in Chiefland, Fla. and a retired homemaker.
Survivors include twelve sons; Willie Thompson and David Thompson Jr., both of Chiefland Fla., Leonard Thompson and Eugene Thompson, both of Gainsville, Fla., Mack Arthur Thompson of Alabama, William Thompson of Indiana, Vance Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz. and Ben Poole, James Otis Glover, Hampton Glover, Eugene Glover and Elder Michael Glover, all of Ocala, Fla.; seven daughters, Diane White and Juanita Richardson, both of Lincolnton, Wanda West and Brenda Thompson, both of Atlanta, Ga., Florine Stevenson of Fairfield, Fla., Barabara Gaddy of Columbus, Ohio and Elizabeth Lewis of Gainsville, Fla.; one brother, Julius Blake of Detroit, Mich.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Flay Hunt
Flay Edward Hunt, 85, of 5531 Fallston Road, died Oct. 26, 2004. Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the New Home Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was retired.
Survivors include wife Edna Hazel Craig Hunt; one brother, Bob Hunt of Vale and five sisters, Beulah Hunt, Mame Brittian and Zora Mull, all of Morganton, Ruby Crotts of Hickory and Doris Bailey of Lawndale.

Grace Hale
DALLAS – Grace Hope Hale, 66, died Oct. 25, 2004. Funeral services are 7 p.m. Wednesday at Carothers Funeral Home of Stanley. Burial will follow in Clinch Valley Cemetery in Richlands, Va. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.
A native of Gypsy, W.Va., she was a retired registered nurse.
Survivors include husband Ferrell B. Hale, special nephew Gary Cline, and brother Richard Bowman of Bartberton, Ohio.
