The School of Technology partnered with the Lincolnton Police Department to teach students CPR recently.
Julie Brooks, a second-year teacher for the Health Occupations class at the School of Technology, and Lt. Kent Lukach, training officer for the Lincolnton Police Department, certified 41 high school students.
The seniors came from East, North, West and Lincolnton high schools. They were certified in adult, child and infant CPR and first aid.
Both Brooks and Lukach are Red Cross instructors and teach these classes annually.
The training comes as part of class curriculum. If seniors decide to pursue nursing after graduation, this training puts them closer to earning their certified nursing assistant certification.
The Red Cross has several instructors in Lincoln County, including Lukach who teachers CPR to officers at the LPD.
“It’s just another way that law enforcement can help Lincoln County’s youth and schools,†Lukach said. “I was glad I could assist.â€by Staff Reports
