The Lincolnton Wolves beat the Bunker Hill Bears’ JV team 20-8 on Thursday.
Early in the second quarter, C.J. Wilson scored on a five-yard run. Marcus Williams ran in the two-point conversion. The score was set up by a 60-yard pass play from Tavares Jefferies to Demory Brewer.
Wilson scored again on a three-yard run later in the second. T.J. Thompson set that touchdown up with a 50-yard reverse. The score was 14-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Williams scored from 15 yards out to make it 20-0. The Bears scored on a 10-yard run and passed for the two-point conversion late in the fourth quarter.
Defensively for the Wolves, Josh Adams had an interception. Other top defensive performers were: Drew Mullen, Phil Robinson, Justin Farley, Brewer and Curtis McGill.
Tom Deal, Nate Wright, Octavious Reid, Adams, Alex Eagle and Will Abernathy were cited for outstanding blocking.
“We had a good tenacious effort on defense. They drove it 70 yards on the first drive and we turned them back on the three and they (the defense) just improved as the game went along,†head coach Fred Dalrymple said.
The Wolves up their record to 5-1.
West Lincoln beat Newton-Conover 16-13. The Rebels’ offense couldn’t get going due to a strong Newton run defense in the first half.
So the Rebels went to the air. Jake Watts hit Payden Houser for a touchdown that made the score 8-7 West’s lead at the half.
With three minutes remaining West tried in gain to stop Newton putting the Devils ahead 13-8.
Watts hooked up with Logan Shronce for the go-ahead score. Jordan Leonhardt sealed the win with an interception.
The Rebels are 3-2 on the season and will play Shelby next week.
