Doug Herbert Performance Center has found its new hub in Lincolnton and is off to a great start.
After moving from its Cherryville location in September, the center has more space and is hoping to add more additions.
The 100,000 square foot building is three times the size of the old Cherryville location. There is also a 10,000 square foot showroom.
“The showroom gets a lot of people here,†said Doug Herbert, owner of Doug Herbert Performance Center. “You get to see stuff hands on.â€
Located in the showroom are three racecars, “Dougzilla†merchandise featuring Doug Herbert’s racing career and standard racing items.
“At first we wondered how we would be able to fill up all the space but we are making a pretty good dent in it,†Herbert said.
His business offers parts to racers around the world in many forms of competition such as road racing, circle track racing, drag racing and boat racing. The business is primarily mail.
Some future plans for the center include a racing museum located behind the showroom where miniature collective items will be on display.
Also located in the building is the potential for a race shop where racers can fix their cars.
Herbert, a racer himself, said it can be tough juggling time between racing and running a business. His drag racing has brought him eight National Hot Rod Association Top Fuel victories and seven top ten finishes.
But he does it because he loves it.
“There is something there I liked, it’s challenging,†Herbert said.
The center is located on East Gaston Street in Lincolnton, or go to herbertperformance.com for more information.
