The Lincolnton Lady Wolves have won back-to-back matches as they won a 7-2 away match versus Lake Norman on Thursday.
No. 1 seed Shawn Kindley for Lincolnton beat Nicole Ascanio 10-4. Liz Rhine won a two-hour singles’ match 10-8 and according to her coach Chris Hoffman, ‘showed a refuse to lose determination.’
No. 3 seed for the Lady Wolves Anna Carpenter was beating Jessie Miller 6-1 when Miller withdrew. Jessica Newton, Wolves’ No. 4 seed defeated Courtney Taylor 10-1.
Mary Heather Lineberger playing at No. 5 for LHS beat Amanda Miller 10-2. Lincolnton’s Alesha Lee, in the No. 6 slot, defeated Betty Royster 10-2 to give the Lady Wolves a singles’ sweep.
In doubles’ play, Lake Norman’s Ascanio/Reeve beat Graham/Stevens 8-2. At No. 2, Carpenter/Lineberger for the Lady Wolves defeated Taylor/Lee 8-2. Lincolnton’s No. 3 team of Anna Kiser/ McCurry lost 8-5 to Tyson/Hughes.
Hoffman was very pleased with his team’s play.
“The girls produced another solid victory in back-to-back matches. I think the squad is shaping up nicely, strokes are improving and the competitive spirit is great,†he said.
“Our depth should protect us in the event of illness or injury,†he added.
Lincolnton raises its record to 4-2 on the season.
North tennis
The Knights romped Cherryville 9-0 on Wednesday. Leading the way was No. 1 see Caroline Farris who defeated Candance Carpenter 8-3.
No. 2 seed Sarah Long and No. 3 Jordan Kinney and No. 4 Hannah Mozeley won their matches decisively.
May Eisner, Knights’ No. 5 seed, beat Maria Campos 8-3. Nataleigh Hitt closed out singles’ play with a lopsided victory.
In doubles, Farris/Kinney beat Carpenter/Jones 8-3. No. 2 seed Long/Mozeley shut out their opponents. At No. 3, Eisner/Hitt won 8-2 over Owens/Millwood.
Last Thursday, North Lincoln beat East Lincoln 6-3.
Mustangs’ No. 1 seed Siri Jones defeated Caroline Farris 10-8. Knights’ No. 2 seed Sarah Long beat Candice Hall 10-4.
Jordan Kinney, playing at No. 3 for the Knights, defeated Madeline Jones 10-3. Mustangs’ No. 4 seed Courtney Feldon beat Hannah Mozeley 10-6.
North’s May Eisner defeated Laura Estridge 10-2 at No. 5. Knights’ No. 6 seed Nataleigh Hitt beat Caitlin Kreshon 10-1.
In doubles’ play, Farris/Kinney lost to Jones/Hall 10-8. No. 2 seed Long/Mozeley beat M. Jones/Feldon 10-5. To close out the match Eisner/Hitt defeated Estridge/Kristin Parker 10-2.
