Shirley Conner Dellinger

Shirley Conner Dellinger, age 76, of Lincolnton died Saturday, October 7, 2017.

Her funeral will be held at noon, Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Andy Royals and Rev. Dickie Spargo officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at Salem Baptist Church.

Mrs. Dellinger was born on January 24, 1941 and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Pearl Cunningham Conner.  She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Dellinger, two brothers, Ralph Conner and Harold Conner and one sister, Ruby Logan.  Mrs. Dellinger was owner and operator of Dellinger’s Florist in Lincolnton for 34 years. She was a faithful servant of Jesus and was an active member of Salem Baptist Church. She was actively involved with the Seniors Ministry and used her gifts of hospitality to serve others.  Her love of cooking, decorating and hosting events was her expression of Christ to others.  Time with family and friends was her life’s treasure.  She now lives in Heaven’s glory with her Savior, beloved husband Gene and all those who’ve gone before.

She is survived by three sons, Darrell Dellinger and wife, Erika of Lincolnton, Dennis Dellinger and wife, Susan of Bessemer City and Bryan Dellinger and wife, Glenda of Hershey, PA; one sister, Daphine Harris of Lincolnton; one brother, Max Conner of Newton; six grandchildren, Zachary Dellinger, Seth Dellinger, Ethan Dellinger, Rebekah Dellinger, Hannah Dellinger and Bryn Dellinger; two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons and lifelong friend for 53 years, Cathrine “Cat” Craft.

George M. Bumgarner

Loving husband and father, George “Sonny” Melvin Bumgarner, age 89, of Lincolnton passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his residence.

George was born June 21, 1928 to the late William Dorse Bumgarner and the late Cleta Mae Rogers Bumgarner. Sonny was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Maiden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jan Bumgarner; and brother, Jerill Bumgarner.

He is survived by: wife of 61 years, Lillian Alexander Bumgarner of the home; two daughters, Beverly B. King of Lincolnton, Lesa B. Carr of Lincolnton; brother, Max Bumgarner of Maiden; five grandchildren, Shane Bumgarner, Chris Fox, Rodney Fox, Cameron Carr, Ashley Carr; nine great-grandchildren, five nieces and nephews

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Maiden with Rev. Eddie Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Doras Preston “DP” Hartsoe, Jr.

Mr. Doras Preston “DP” Hartsoe, Jr., age 94, of Lincolnton, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 5, 2017.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2017, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael White officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Hartsoe was born April 12, 1923, in Lincoln County, to the late Doras Preston Hartsoe, Sr. and Elizabeth Rhyne Hartsoe. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by six brothers.  He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II as an anti-aircraft soldier, and then later worked as a mechanic.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Willis Hartsoe of the home; three sons, Tommy Hartsoe, and wife Dianne, Jerry Hartsoe, and wife Robin, and Don Hartsoe, and wife Crystal, all of Lincolnton; a daughter, Vickie McCoy, and husband Mike, of Taylorsville; his only sister, Mary Ward of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Stacy Bivens, Josh Hartsoe, Clint McCoy, Anna Towery, and Ashlyn Hartsoe; and five beloved great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to DP’s caregiver, Robin Morrison.

Johnny Kenneth Roseboro

Johnny Kenneth Roseboro, age 43, of 3716 Summerow Road, Lincolnton passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Mr. Roseboro’s home.

Mr. Roseboro is survived by his wife, Angela Roseboro of the home; one son, Darian Roseboro of Lincolnton; one daughter Kaylee Roseboro of Lincolnton; his mother, Brenda Roseboro of Lincolnton; grandmother, Fannie Roseboro of Lincolnton; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Patricia Green of Granite Falls; his longtime friend, Bucky Motz of Lincolnton and numerous uncles and aunts.

Betty Thompson Scronce

Betty Thompson Scronce, age 82, of Crouse, North Carolina, passed away on October 6, 2017, after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

She is survived by her loving spouse of 10 years, Bob Scronce; 2 daughters, Rita (James) Nolting of Frankfort, Illinois; Billie K. (Stanley) Luttrell of Crete, Illinois; 1 son, Maury Thompson of Homestead, Florida; 1 step-daughter, Shari (Larry) Richard of Crouse, North Carolina; 1 sister, Billie (Nick) Brooks, Homestead, FL; and several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Willard Thompson; 2 sisters, Helen Ledbetter and Ruby Pease; and a grandson, F. Michael Catanzarite.

Born in 1935, in Crouse, North Carolina, the daughter of the late W. Conley and Gertrude Tutherow Heafner, Betty resided in Newton Township, Pennsylvania, for many years, before retiring to Homestead, Florida, with her first husband. After his death, she remarried and returned to her roots in Crouse, North Carolina.  A lifelong housewife, Betty was known for her delicious baked goods, creative crafts and tireless energy, before Parkinson’s progressed and robbed her of her energy and movement.

A past Worthy Matron and member of the Juanita Order Chapter 8, Order of the Eastern Star and member of the Red Hat Society, Betty was also a long-time member of the former Schultzville United Methodist Church and more recently, Bethphage Lutheran Church in Lincolnton, NC. She loved to travel, her doll and Beanie Baby collections and, in her younger years, maintained a lovely garden and helped on the farm.

The family would like to especially thank the staff of the The Brian Center, Lincolnton, NC, for their attentive and kind care during Betty’s last days.

Graveside services and internment will be conducted by the Rev. Clarence Sifford at Newton Cemetery, Newton Township, PA., with arrangements handled by Lawrence E. Young Funeral Home, 418 S. State St, Clarks Summit, PA. 18411.
