Pauline Schrum Odell

Pauline Schrum Odell, age 80, of Buffalo Forest Road in Lincolnton, died on Friday, September 29, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel.

Mrs. Odell was born October 12, 1936, in Lincoln County, to the late Earl and Agnes Miller Schrum. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmy Dean Pope; her second husband, James Odell; a daughter, Abbie Caroline Little; a brother, Gordon Schrum; and a sister, Ferrie Green.

She is survived by a son, Timothy Dean Pope of Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Timothy Durand Pope, Cameron William Little, and Shannon Aleace Pope; six great-grandchildren, Austin Pope, Savannah Pope, Jason Burkhardt, Jordan Burkhardt, Kadence Silcox, and Aeryanna Soto; two brothers, Grady Schrum and W.T. Schrum; and two sisters, Elsie Laney and Carolyn Waters.

John Robert Peeler

John Robert Peeler, age 89, of Lincolnton, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Lincolnton Rehabilitation Center.

His funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeremy Peeler officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church cemetery.  The family will received friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Peeler was born February 15, 1928, in Lincoln County, to the late Richard and Zola Carter Peeler. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Avery Peeler.  John retired from SCT Yarn in Cherryville.  He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.  He loved the simple things in life and music.  In his younger years, he sang with “The Pal Boys”, which made a few records and was on WLON radio on Sunday afternoons.

He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia P. Morrison of Lincolnton; three brothers, Jerry Peeler, Ronnie Peeler, and Earl Peeler, all of Lincolnton; a sister, Clara P. Abernathy of Cherryville; a granddaughter, Casey Powell of Vale; and two great-grandchildren, Cayden Powell and Bryson Powell, both of Vale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, PO Box 43, Crouse, NC 28033, or to Christian Ministry of Lincoln County, PO Box 423, Lincolnton, NC  28093.

Carolyn-Ann Ross Neagle

Carolyn-Ann Ross Neagle, age 84, of Robinwood Road in Gastonia, died on Friday, September 29, 2017.

Her funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m., at Covenant Bible Church with Rev. Nathan Grooms officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Neagle was born August 8, 1933, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Joe Pate Ross and Mable Hall Ross. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ted William Neagle, and stepson, Steven Neagle.  She retired from teaching after 25 years.

She is survived by a stepson, Jeff Neagle, and wife Michelle, of Belmont; stepdaughter, Susan White of Cornelius; step daughter-in-law, Anita Neagle of Lincolnton; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Thomas Bright Keene Jr.

Thomas Bright Keene Jr., 89, of Denver, NC. passed away on September 28, 2017 at Novant Health – Huntersville Medical Center. Born on December 22, 1927 in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of the late Thomas Bright and Flossie Keene Sr.

Tom proudly volunteered at the age of 17 to serve in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, Tom went back to school and graduated with a college degree. He was employed as an engineer (material handling) and later went on to becoming an investment broker. In 1975, Tom joined his wife, Josephine, in a Tupperware Distributorship.

Tom was a member of the Holy Spirit Council (Denver, NC,) Knights of Columbus where he was active in the Operation Lamb Program which helps children with disabilities and with East Lincoln Christian Ministries Meals Program. He was an original member of Holy Spirit R.C. Church in Denver where to this day he was an active member.  He enjoyed dancing, big band music and gardening. Tom traveled extensively with Jo before and after his retirement.

Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Alpha Mae Keene and son, David Keene.

Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Josephine (nee Thill) Keene; children Connie K. Redus of Denver, NC., Sherry Brown of Lacey, Wa., Michael Keene (Cindy) of Raleigh-Durham, NC., Debbie Baucom (Bo) of Matthews, NC., Patrick Keene of Denver, NC., Teresa Chelko (Kevin) of Huntersville, NC.; 2 step-children Bob Bundy of Charlotte, NC and Pat Bundy (Barbara) of Belmont, NC.; 12 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Holy Spirit R.C. Church 537 North Highway 16 (Business) Denver, NC. 28037. Members of the United States Navy Honor Guard and the Holy Spirit Council Knights of Columbus will participate.  The family will receive friends just prior to the Funeral Mass in the church and following the Funeral Mass in the Parish Activity Center where a luncheon will be served.

Mr. Milton Garland, Jr., 89, of Cherryville passed away on September 27, 2017 at his residence.

A funeral service will be held on October 4, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Rudisill Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will follow in Cherryville Memorial City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

The family will receive friends between 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Burke Mortuary in Newton on

Tuesday, October 3, 2017. A Memorial Service celebrating Inez’ life will follow at Burke’s beginning at 11 a.m. Following the service, interment will be at Catawba Memorial Park.
