Nellie Grigg Nantz

Nellie Grigg Nantz, age 86, of 346 Amity Church Road in Iron Station, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Pearl Baptist Church with Rev. Alan Wheeler and Rev. William Wease officiating. Burial will follow in the Iron Station Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:15 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Nellie was born on February 26, 1931, to the late Abraham Grigg and Carrie Saunders Grigg in Lincoln County. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Bobby Ray Nantz; brothers, Frank Grigg, James Grigg, Leonard Grigg, Charlie Grigg; and sisters, Flossie Whitworth and Bertha Hubbard; and a baby boy Grigg.

She is survived by her daughter, Terry Nantz Reel, and husband Steve, of Iron Station; son, David Nantz, and wife Karen, of Mills River, NC; her precious grandchildren, Brittany Richard, and husband Travis, Sawyer Reel, and Harley Nantz; and her pride and joy, great-grandson, Rhett Richard. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Lorene Grigg and Ruby Grigg, and a number of loving nieces and nephews she adored.

Nellie was a life-long active member of Pearl Baptist Church where she had played the piano, organ, was custodian and church clerk. She had a way of making all those around her smile and feel welcome.  She loved making people laugh and loved everyone.  Nellie will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. She also worked in textiles, and was the owner and operator of Bob’s Esso and Nell & Bob’s Grocery.

Betty Sue “Susie” Allran Leonhardt

Betty Sue “Susie” Allran Leonhardt, age 80, of 2241 Johnstown Road in Crouse, died on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Rev. Fred Mitschke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Leonhardt was born February 19, 1937, in Lincoln County, to the late James and Bessie Allran. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.  She was a homemaker.  Susie loved flowers.  She had a kind, generous and faithful spirit.  She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward L. Leonhardt of the home; a son, Russell Leonhardt, and wife Neresa, of Cherryville; a daughter, Ann Marie Starkey, and husband Steven, of Lincolnton; and two grandchildren, Jordan Leonhardt and Garrett Starkey.

Louise Cloninger Nolen

Louise Cloninger Nolen, age 74, passed away September 25, 2017 at her home. She was born September 18, 1943 in Gaston County, a daughter of the late Oscar and Lucille Wentz Cloninger.

Louise loved being with family and friends. She took great pleasure in time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as a large extended family and numerous friends. She will be remembered for her ready smile and her unconquerable spirit in the face of adversity.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Larry Nolen of the home; children, David Scott Nolen and wife, Carol Ann of Denver, Tina N. McNutt and husband Gene of Lincolnton, Debbie Sue Torbush of Denver; brothers, Jackie Cloninger of Cramerton and Oscar Cloninger, Jr. and wife Pansy of Gastonia; sisters, Joyce Featherstone of Greenville, SC and Brenda Ford of Belmont; grandchildren; Alicia Parsley and husband, Brett, Samantha Nolen, David Nolen, Jr., Brandon McNutt, Victoria Clinton and husband, Tyler, Natasha Torbush, Cory Torbush; great grandchildren, Trinity Stephens, Brennen Stephens, Jackson Parsley, Adecyn Tollie, David Tollie, Zoey Zimmermann, Leland Clinton and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her brother, Sammy Cloninger; sisters, Marlene Ray and Mary Jane Young.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2017 at McLean Funeral Directors in Belmont. The funeral service will be held in the Bumgardner Chapel of the funeral home at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017 with Roger Wentz officiating. Burial will follow in Beth Haven Baptist Church Cemetery in Lincoln County.
