Bobby Lewis Avery

CROUSE — Bobby Lewis Avery, age 77, of 3189 Dave Heafner Road in Crouse, died on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Sloop officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At all other times, the family will be at the home.

Mr. Avery was born January 12, 1940, in Lincoln County, to the late Lewis and Stella Davis Avery. He was the previous owner/operator of Piedmont Bait and Tackle.  After retirement, he and Wanda began to farm.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Richard Avery, of the home; a son, Robert “Buck” Avery, and wife Sharon, of Crouse; a daughter, Cyndi Avery Brackett, and husband Ryan, of Crouse; two sisters, Sue Rogers, and husband Larry, of Denver and Diane Neal, and husband Bobby Dean, of Crouse; and one granddaughter, Megan Avery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, PO Box 131, Crouse, NC 28033, or to Testa Family Hospice House, 321 Kings Mountain Blvd., Kings Mountain, NC  28086.

Harvey ‘Buddy’ Alonzo Setzer, Jr.

Harvey “Buddy” Alonzo Setzer, Jr., age 74, of Lincolnton, died on Monday, September 25, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Ingle officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Setzer was born April 1, 1943, in Catawba County, to the late Harvey Alonzo Setzer, Sr. and Libby Buff Setzer. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Huss. He served in the United States Army and then later worked for General Electric as a transformer repairman.

He is survived by a daughter, Christy Setzer Chaney (Buddy) of Lincolnton; three sisters, Mildred Canipe (Mack) of Charlotte, Judy Wurtzer, and Ella Stirewalt (Dennis) all of Hickory; two grandchildren, Blaine Chaney and Skyler Chaney, both of Lincolnton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Vicki Wilson ‘Mama Duck’ Duckworth

IRON STATION — Vicki Wilson “Mama Duck” Duckworth, age 69, of 709 Amity Church Road in Iron Station, died on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Amity Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Kincaid officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. today, September 27, 2017, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Duckworth was born October 14, 1947, in Lincoln County, to the late Ray Arthur Wilson and Nannie Mae Christopher Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Allan M. Duckworth. She worked in food service at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Lincoln County Schools, and Carolinas HealthCare System – Lincoln.

She is survived by three sons, Allan Ray Duckworth of Iron Station, Keith Aaron Duckworth, and wife Roni, of Lincolnton, and Kevin Allan Duckworth, and wife Gina, of Iron Station; one daughter, Virginia Duckworth Carpenter of Iron Station; and one brother, Walter William Wilson of Texas.

Charlotte Christine ‘Chris’ Hovis

Charlotte Christine “Chris” Hovis, age 85, of Lincolnton, died on Sunday, September 24, 2017.

Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, September 27, 2017, at Boger City Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bigham officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hovis was born June 12, 1932, in Lincoln County, to Forest and Ethel Rudisill Gilbert. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Leon “Yadie” Hovis.

She is survived by two sons, Larry Hovis, and wife Gail, and Bobby Hovis, and wife Melissa, all of Lincolnton; three sisters, Rachel G. Jones, Shirley Hawkins, and Peggy Reynolds, all of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Chad Hovis, and wife Audrey, Jeff Hovis, Aleia H. Watts, and husband Travis, and Anna Hovis; and four great-grandchildren, Caleb Hovis, Ayden Hovis, Cameron Hovis, and Georgia Grace.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boger City Baptist Church Building Fund, 2201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Mamie Loudene Jordan Gerold ‘Aunt Dene’, 81, of Maiden passed away September 24, 2017.

Candice “Candy” Lynn Lynch, 40, of Hickory passed away September 24, 2017.

A graveside service will be held September 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends September 28, 2017 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at North Newton Baptist Church in Newton.

Rev. Robert Lee Woods, 81, of Kennesaw, Ga. passed away September 18, 2017.

A funeral service will be held September 30, 2017 at noon at Brown’s Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date.
