Agnes Marie Baker Harbert

Agnes Marie Baker Harbert, age 77, of Heavner Road in Lincolnton, died on Friday, September 8, 2017.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father Carmen Malacari officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Warlick Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Harbert was born May 14, 1940, in Canton, Ohio, to the late Anthony and Anna May Corrigan Baker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Harbert Caldwell, and a sister, Virginia Zufall. She worked in hospitality.

Agnes loved sports, especially Carolina basketball. She loved NASCAR, was an avid golfer, card player and bowler. Agnes also worked for the Lincoln County Voting Polls and served as Precinct Judge.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Harbert of the home; a son, Chris Harbert, and wife Linda Cable, of Sherrills Ford; a granddaughter, Lauren Cable of Winston-Salem; and a nephew, Kenneth Zufall of North Canton, OH.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092, or to Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund, 537 N. Highway 16, Denver, NC 28037.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lincoln County Hospice for the terrific care given to Agnes.

Sylvia Dianne Gates

CHERRYVILLE — Ms. Sylvia Dianne Gates, age 59, of Lee Bess Road in Cherryville died on Friday, September 8, 2017.

A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Open Word Holiness Church with Pastor Matthew Sparks officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service at the church.

Ms. Gates was born September 24, 1957 in Gaston County to the late Atmer and Alice Welch Gates. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jody Jones.

Survivors include three daughters, Tonya Heavner and husband Kelly of Hickory, Annie Clark and husband Alex of Cherryville and Stacy Armstrong and husband Randy of Lincolnton; one brother, Ed Gates of Lowell; two sisters, Robin Johnson of Dallas and Angel Saxton of Statesville; eleven grandchildren, Justin Dellinger, Gavin Lanier, Hanna Valverde, Caleb Heavner, Katie Dellinger, Bailey Lanier, Payton Armstrong, Cheyenne DiBernardo, Maison Armstrong, Anna Grace DiBernardo, Sophie Armstrong and five great grandchildren, Zali and Zoey Dellinger, Jedidiah and Jeminiah Abernathy and Emilia Valverde.

James H. Deyton

James H. Deyton passed away September 7, 2017.

James was born Nov. 9, 1939 in Graham County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Leone Deyton; two sisters, Elwanda Hester and Francis Hudson.

He is survived by his children, Michael Deyton, Sam Deyton and Cindy Lambert; stepsons, Dean Shipler and Chris Rackley; brothers, Warren Deyton and Kenneth Deyton; sisters, Margaret Wilson, Sue Fisher and Sheila Chambers; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jenkins Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the Deyton family.

 

Gary L. Icenhour

Gary Leon Icenhour, 70, of Taylorsville passed away September 9, 2017.

A memorial service will be held September 13, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Friendship Lutheran Church in Taylorsville. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Pauline Snyder Setzer

Pauline Snyder Setzer, 79, of Newton passed away September 7, 2017.

A Celebration of Life Service was held September 10, 2017 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Reformed Church­­­­­ in Newton.   A graveside service followed at 4:30 p.m. at Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery in Hudson.

Bennett Funeral Service of Conover served the Setzer family.
