American Legion Baseball State Tournament field set

The field is complete for the 2017 North Carolina American Legion Baseball state tournament which gets underway this Friday at Pitt Community College outside of Greenville.  

Joining Cherryville Post 100 from Area IV will be Shelby Post 82.  Shelby defeated Union County 3 games to 1 in the semifinal round to advance.

The Area III representatives will be Rowan County and Randolph County.  Rowan is the two-time defending state champion.  After winning last year’s state title, Rowan went on to win the Southeast Regional in Asheboro, and was runner-up in the World Series in Shelby.

Wilmington and Hope Mills will represent Area II in Greenville, and Garner and Pitt County will be the Area I representatives.  Pitt County, who received an automatic berth as the host, actually earned their way in by getting to the Area I finals.

Area IV semifinals

Game 4: Cherryville 16, Gaston Braves 7 (Cherryville wins series 3-1)

Game 3: Shelby 14, Union County 3  

Game 4: Shelby 4, Union County 3 (Shelby wins series 3-1)
