Woman convicted of child sexual assault

A former Lincoln County resident pleaded guilty Tuesday in Lincoln County Superior Court to conspiracy to commit child abuse by sex act and taking indecent liberties with a child.

Lois Flowers Mahala, 47, of Grover, was arrested on May 5, 2015 on the indecent liberties with a child charge and was later indicted by the Lincoln County Grand Jury on Jan. 11 on a charge of felony child abuse.

The incident involved a female who was 15 years old at the time of the incident and is related to Mahala.

Mahala received a 20-month active prison sentence and will have to serve 60 months of probation after she is released from prison. She will be required to register as a sex offender and has a permanent no-contact order with the victim.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office detective Sally Dellinger was the investigating officer in the case.
