Staff report

Surry Community College defeated Danville Community College in Danville, Virginia  last weekend in the Region X baseball tournament.

With the win, the Knights advance to play Prince George Community College out of Largo, Maryland in a best-of-three series this weekend.  The winner of this weekend’s series will advance to the Junior College World Series beginning May 27 in Greeneville, Tennessee.

Former North Lincoln pitcher Seth McRorie pitched five innings in last weekend’s series, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, while striking out eight batters and walking two.

Austin Buchanan, a former East Lincoln player, played well in left field for Surry Community College and was named to the all-region defensive team.

Also from North Lincoln, Daniel Thompson made the all-region team as a designated hitter.  Defensively, Thompson caught a line drive at third base for the final out of last weekend’s series.

The three players have become close friends since playing against each other in high school.  Last summer, they played together for the Mooresville Spinners, a collegiate-league team, and then this season at Surry Community College in Dobson.
