Ruby Catherine Laney Henley

NEWTON — Ruby Catherine Laney Henley, age 93, of Newton passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton.

Born September 19, 1923 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Brown Laney, Sr. and the late Bertie Caldwell Laney. She was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden and was blessed with a marriage of 61 years to her late husband, Patrick “Pat” Henley. In addition to her parents and husband, a daughter, Rebecca Hamilton; a brother, Brown Laney, Jr.; and a sister, Jessie Setzer, preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory: son, Charles Henley and wife Jeanette of Maiden; three grandsons, Alex Hamilton and wife Ginger of Griffin, Ga., Brent Henley of Maiden, Blake Henley and wife Mary of Newton; three great-granddaughters, Caroline, Elizabeth, and Kate Hamilton; and son-in-law, Max Hamilton and wife Susan of Cornelius.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden with Rev. Michael Staton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Harold Brown

Harold Lutz Brown, 86, of 1344 Hwy 274, Cherryville passed away Monday, May 15, 2017 at his residence.

Born October 21, 1930 in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Walter Guy Brown and Lois Inez Lutz Brown.  Harold was retired after 33 years of service from Carolina Freight as a truck driver.  He was a member of Kadesh United Methodist Church and Cherryville American Legion Post 100.  Harold served in the US Navy during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Guy Dwight Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Cooper Brown; daughter, Dwightette Brown of Lincoln County and a brother, Walter Gerald Brown of Cherryville and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. until 4 p.m., Thursday at Kadesh United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be 4 p.m., Thursday at Kadesh United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Lail and Chaplain Justin Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Otto Herman Lutz

Otto Herman Lutz, 92, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2017 at home. He was born on April 11, 1925 in Uster, Switzerland to the late, Otto Lutz and Martha Dietrich Lutz.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Heinz Lutz and great-grandchild, Malik Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Margarete Conzelmann Lutz; son, Peter Lutz (Darlene) of Mobile, Ala.; daughter, Doris Brown (Welfred “Butch”) of Hopewell, Va.; grandchildren, , Deborah Bishop (Chad), Amy Brown Bennett (Mark), Bryan Brown (Jeannette), Lena and Maegan Lutz; great-grandchildren, Payton, Blake, Brody, Avery, and Elijah.

He is also survived by sister-in-law, Nelly Lutz in Amriswil, Switzerland and her children Denise Lutz, Beatrix Schlumpf, Dieter Lutz, and Christopher Lutz along with sister-in-law, Rosemarie Blessing in Munich, Germany.

In 1963, he was hired by Lesley Fay to move to Lincolnton to operate Lesley Fay knitting plant. In 1972 he opened up his own knitting plant Swiss Knits which he owned and operated until his retirement. All his life he was active in the New Apostolic Church in Charlotte and lived his faith to the fullest.

Gladys Marie Sain Sain

Gladys Marie Sain Sain, age 86, of 6763 Saintown Road in Vale, died on Sunday, May 14, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Tommy Lineberger and Rev. Robert Sain officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Warlick Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Mrs. Sain was born October 6, 1930, in Lincoln County, to the late Frank Eugene and Nannie Belle Sain Sain. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert L. Sain; and brother and sister, Ben F. Sain and Rachel S. Wright.  She worked as a corporate secretary for Sain & Sain Trucking.

She is survived by two sons, Dr. Larry Sain (Beth), and Tracy Sain, all of Vale; two daughters, Lynn S. Smith (Tommy), and Karen Sain (Renee), all of Vale; grandsons, Andy Sain (Kristina) of Crouse, Jason Sain (Emily) of Cherryville, Thomas Smith (Bethanne) of Vale, and Daniel Smith (Sara) of Vale; one brother, Bobby Sain (Wilma) of Vale; and one sister, Melba Davis of Hickory.

Doris Ann Jordan Woody

Doris Ann Jordan Woody, age 70, of 3025 Lonesome Dove Trail in Lincolnton, died on Saturday, May 14, 2017.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. Earlynne Bartley officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Woody was born July 3, 1946, in Graham County, to the late Doug and Violet Stewart Jordan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Peter Paul Woody.  She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, Ricky Davis of the home; two daughters, Robin Sigmon of Denver and Tyrene Davis of Lincolnton; one brother, Joe Jordan of Andrews; two sisters, Shelby Jordan of Robbinsville and Rita Jeelani of Maiden; seventeen grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Sandra Kay Sigmon Shrum, 68, of Conover died May 11, 2017.
