Bobby Dean Canipe

Mr. Bobby Dean Canipe, age 73, of 3980 Killian Road, Lincolnton died Sunday, May 14, 2017.

The family will receive friend from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. this evening at Warlick Funeral Home. A memorial service for Mr. Canipe will be held at a later date.

Mr. Canipe was born September 17, 1943 to the late Horace and Edith Carpenter Canipe.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Isenhour and two children, Rebecca Canipe and Johnathan Canipe.  Mr. Canipe was a farmer and was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by one daughter, Deborah Pate of Lincolnton; two brothers, Wilford Canipe of Henry, and James Canipe of Lincolnton; three sisters, Ann Hastings of Statesville, Daphine Swaine of Statesville and Lela Childers of Lincolnton; two granddaughters, Rebecca Pate of Lincolnton and Angela Rodrigez of Florida; one grandson, Andrew Pate; three great-grandchildren, Ana Rodriguez, Faith Rodriguez and Liam Pate.

Jimmy Gene Mellon

CROUSE — Jimmy Gene Mellon, age 41, of Yoder Road in Crouse, died on Friday, May 12, 2017.

Jimmy was born September 11, 1975, in Lincoln County, to Rickie Gilbert Bardgett and the late Jimmy Sherrill Mellon. He worked as a handyman.

He is survived by a son, Jeremy Mellon of Stanley; his mother, Rickie Gilbert Bardgett of Crouse; and three sisters, Patricia Gilbert of Lincolnton, Pattie Coletti of Vale, and Annetta Aldana of Nebraska.

Services will be announced at a later date.

  2. C. Nicholson, 77, of Lincolnton died Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

Born in Clarkesville, Ga. on January 14, 1940, he was the son of the late Ernest Nicholson and Blanche Ledford Nicholson. Mr. Nicholson served 9.5 years with the U.S. Army, including two tours in Vietnam.  He was a block, brick, and rock mason and loved fishing and gardening.  He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, J. C. is survived by his children, Brian Keith Nicholson of Morganton, Sean Eugene Nicholson (Sylvia) of Maiden, and Sandra Nicholson Anderson (Brandon) of Cana, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Donna Nicholson; grandchildren, Jessica Miller, Sean Michael Nicholson, Bryson Lee, Joshua Nicholson, Kaleb Nicholson, Matthew Nicholson, Jacob Nicholson, and Morgan Nicholson; a great-grandson, Nathan Miller; brothers, Bill Nicholson of Supply and Don Nicholson of Maiden; sisters, Lillian Nicholson of Vale and Carol Nicholson of Hickory; and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.

In addition to his parents, J. C. was preceded in death by his wife, Betty F. Nicholson; a son, J. C. Nicholson, Jr.; a sister, Peggy Nicholson; and two brothers, Harold and Bob Nicholson.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

Martha Jane Gates Keener

Mrs. Martha Jane Gates Keener, age 75, of Redwood Lane, Lincolnton died Saturday, May 13, 2017.

Her funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Covenant Bible Church with Rev. Mike Devine and Rev. Nathan Grooms officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at Covenant Bible Church.

Mrs. Keener was born on December 9, 1941 to the late William G. and Loretta Reynolds Gates. She worked in nursing as a LPN and RN.

Mrs. Keener is survived by her husband, Jerry Keener of the home; two sons, Randy Keener of Lincolnton and Rick Keener of Lincolnton; one brother, Chris Gates of Lincolnton; five sisters, Pat Thrower of Topsail Beach, Nita Turner and husband, Bobby of Lincolnton, Rita Hauss and husband, Gary of Lincolnton and Billie Moore of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan, Rachel ,Nathan and Noah.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Richard Francis Kohout, Sr.

Mr. Richard Francis Kohout, Sr., age 74, of 1094 Better Brook Lane, Lincolnton died Saturday, May 13, 2017.

Services for Mr. Kohout will be announced at a later date.

Mr. Kohout was born on April 18, 1943 to the late Joseph John Kohout and Wanda Senkowski McKnight.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Letitia Berg Kohout, his son, Richard Kohout, Jr. and his brother, Joseph Kohout.  He was retired from the construction industry as a roofer.

Mr. Kohout is survived by one son, James Kohout of Forked Rivers, NJ: one daughter, Kimberly K. Weiz of Mankawkin, NJ; one brother, Bernie Kohout of Boca Raton; two sisters, Eileen K. Naumoski of Garfield, NJ and Shirley K. Barnes of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; ten nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews.

Otha Isarel Lethco

STANLEY — Otha Isarel Lethco, 88, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017.

He was born in Sevier County, Tenn., son of the late Thomas Henry and Leary Aslinger Lethco. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Scercy Lethco.

Mr. Lethco is survived by his sister, Ivory Gibson; his step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A graveside service to celebrate the life of Mr. Lethco will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly with Reverend David Walker officiating.
