Harry Neal Caldwell

Rev. Harry Neal Caldwell, age 68, of Home Trail in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2017.

His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Andrew Royals, Rev. Ken Gibson, and Rev. Lanny Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Rev. Caldwell was born January 30, 1949, in Lincoln County, to the late Carl and Edna Bumgarner Caldwell. He proudly served in the United States Army.  He pastored three churches during 27 years of ministry.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Proctor Caldwell of the home; a foster son, Ron Wyatt, and wife Mandy, of Thomasville; a brother, Frank Caldwell, and wife Sharon, of Locust Fork, Ala.; a sister, Evelyn Caldwell of Raleigh; a brother-in-law, Wayne Proctor, and wife Sue, of Cherryville; two grandchildren, Hannah Wyatt and Maddie Wyatt; and several nieces and nephews.

Sandra McNeely

Mary Sandra Smith McNeely, 68, of 7731 West Hwy 27 in Vale passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Wake Forest Medical Center.

She was born April 5, 1948 in Richland County, S.C. to the late James Richard Smith and Norma Wright Smith Worley. She was retired from Carolina Care as a housekeeper. Her hobbies included going to the mountains and beach, fishing, going on cruises, singing in the church choir, walking, exercising and collecting teddy bears. She was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church, church choir member, United Methodist Women member, past Sunday school teacher and Unit 100 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary member in Cherryville.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by an infant son, Melvin Hutto.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Larry Dean McNeely; son, Jason McNeely of Charlotte; daughter, Kim Edmondson of Kings Mountain, brother, James Richard Smith, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two sisters, Elizabeth Ann Bass of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Rebecca Lynn Bridges of Sumter, S.C.; three grandchildren, Amber Edmondson of Grover, Jacob Edmondson of Kings Mountain and Joshua Edmondson of Mooresville; great grandchild, Karsyn Grace Stroup of Grover.

Visitation will be held Saturday at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hebron United Methodist Church. A funeral service will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hebron United Methodist Church with Rev. Cathy Turman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mary Jane Gates Poovey

Mrs. Mary Jane Gates Poovey, 88, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2017.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Long Shoals Baptist Church with Rev. Wesley Ingle and Rev. Ken Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Poovey was born August 21, 1928, in Lincoln County, to the late Harris Grady Gates and Lola Green Gates. Mrs. Poovey was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Mr. Ralph James Poovey; by a daughter, Lola Poovey; and siblings Carmen Bryant and Dick Gates.

Mrs. Poovey was a consummate mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends until her declining health no longer allowed her to do so.  Mrs. Poovey had an unwavering faith in God.  She served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and choir member at Long Shoals Baptist Church for many years.

Survivors include sons, Steve Poovey, and wife Cecilia, of Hillsville, Va.; Rick Poovey, and wife Cindy, of Denver; daughter, Ann P. Spencer, and husband Jimmy, of Long Shoals; brother, Sid Gates, and wife Valerie, of Lincolnton; and sister, Nancy Raber of Ellenboro; grandchildren, Amy, Jason, Ronda, Shelley, Ricky, Tyler, Ethan, and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Andrew, Paige, Skye, Braedyn, and Kaleigh.

The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Coleen Parmer, Mrs. Poovey’s in-home caregiver, and to caregivers from Catawba Regional Hospice.

Malinda Huss Freeman

Malinda Huss Freeman, age 76, of Charlotte Square, and formerly of Deal Street in Lincolnton, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2017.

Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Redding officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Freeman was born July 17, 1940, in Lincoln County, to the late Bate and Mary Bridges Huss. She worked as a substitute teacher for the Lincoln County School System.  In1958, Malinda was voted Miss Lincoln County.

She is survived by her husband, R.R. “Bob” Freeman, Jr. of Charlotte; a son, Robert Freeman, III of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Rob Freeman IV and Molly Freeman, both of Charlotte.

William “Bill” Osborne Graham, 74, of Terrell died on January 6, 2017.

A memorial service will be held on February 4, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Vanderburg United Methodist Church in Mooresville.

Larry Reeves Hallman, 73, of Cherryville died on January 30, 2017.

Visitation will be held from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on February 4, 2017 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on February 4, 2017. Burial will be private.

Martha Evelyn Aldridge Wesson, 96, of Maiden died on January 31, 2017.

The funeral service will be held on February 6, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Cornerstone Church in Maiden. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.

Eddie Lee Jarvis

Eddie Lee Jarvis, 71, of Sherrills Ford died on January 30, 2017.

A service to celebrate Eddie’s life will be held today at 3 p.m. at Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden. Burial with military honors by Catawba Valley Marine Corp League will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Providence Road Baptist Church.

Herman Gates Howlett, 67, of Vale died on January 31, 2017.

Barbara Faye Stone, 75, of Statesville died on January 31, 201.

A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on February 6, 2017 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends immediately following the ceremony Monday, February 6, 2017 at Jenkins Funeral Home.
