Former Lincolnton pastor arrested for sexual battery in Florida

Staff report
A former Lincolnton pastor was arrested last week in Volusia County, Florida on a Duval County warrant for sexual battery of a person under 12 years old.
Michael Wayne Hill, 52, previously served as a Seventh-day Adventist pastor in Lincolnton and Shelby but, when arrested, was serving as the pastor of a Chanute, Kansas church.
The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred 20 years ago.
According to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office report, Hill allegedly contacted the victim and arranged to meet them at a Panera Bread restaurant in Daytona Beach on Jan. 8.
Jackson County and Volusia County deputies monitored the meeting. Hill appeared with his wife and was not aware he was being monitored by authorities.
According to media reports, The Carolina Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which covers Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties, performs background checks on all pastors and they found no criminal record on Hill. His most recent pastoral position in North Carolina was served in Shelby in 2014.
Hill is being jailed in Jacksonville without bond.
