The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating break-ins at two separate tobacco outlets in Denver that occurred within 30 minutes of each other on Tuesday.
Thieves gained access to Tobacco and Beer Outlet at 3598 N. North Carolina Highway 16 and Denver Smokes at 120 S. North Carolina Highway 16 by throwing a rock and a cinderblock into the businesses. Deputies responded to an alarm at Tobacco and Beer Outlet around 12:30 a.m., where they observed the broken glass in the front door.
Surveillance footage showed two people entering the store and placing different items into boxes. Both suspects were wearing masks and blue jeans. One suspect was wearing a short-sleeved shirt while the other was wearing a long-sleeved shirt. The suspects left through the front door and left the scene in an unknown vehicle.
Deputies conducting normal checks of businesses in the area discovered the break-in at Denver Smokes shortly before 1 a.m. Surveillance footage showed a rock was thrown through the glass door of the business around 12:29 a.m. after a dark colored SUV pulled up to the front of the store. Two suspects got out of the vehicle, entered the store with boxes, took items and left within three minutes.
