Highway Patrol looking for driver in fatal hit-and-run

UPDATE (08/19, 9 a.m.): The Highway Patrol has confirmed that a vehicle has been taken into custody and is being processed for DNA transfer. An autopsy of the victim, John Morrison, 35, of Mountain View, will take place around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. More information to follow as it becomes available.

Highway Patrol troopers are asking for the public’s help to locate a vehicle that was involved in a fatal hit-and-run Monday morning near the intersection of Highway 321 and Highway 127 in Catawba County.
The incident occurred around 6:47 a.m., when a pedestrian was struck and killed.
The Highway Patrol, as previously reported, was searching for a dark Honda Civic, but has since determined that Civic debris found at the scene had been there for some time.
Troopers said they are searching for a vehicle that shows signs of a collision.
Anyone with information is asked to dial *HP from a cell phone or call 911.
