Man charged for indecent liberties

Following an investigation stemming from a report filed on July 21, the Lincolnton Police Department charged Dwayne Bercell Sledge Jr., 31, of 144 Ross Street in Lincolnton, with taking indecent liberties with a child. The warrant for his arrest was issued on July 31 and Sledge was taken into custody in the early morning hours of Aug. 1 by Officer Travis Jones and Sgt. William Vaughn.
The Lincolnton Police Department Criminal Investigations Division partnered with the Lincoln County Child Advocacy Center in the investigation. Sledge, who also goes by the alias New York, has an extensive criminal background, including carrying a concealed weapon, obtaining property by false pretenses, selling/deliver of a controlled substance schedule VI, sell/deliver of a controlled substance schedule II and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance.
A $20,500 secured bond was set and Sledge was placed in Harven A Crouse Detention Center. His first court appearance was on Friday.
