Lincoln County’s Board of Social Services welcomed two new board members on Wednesday.
County Commissioner Cecelia Martin and Pumpkin Center Intermediate School Instructional Coach Wanda Lutz were honored during the board’s meeting.
Over the course of her career in education, Lutz has served as principal for S. Ray Lowder Elementary School and Union Elementary School, as an assistant principal at Love Memorial Elementary and has taught at various schools across Lincoln County.
Now retired, Martin remains active in local government, serving as the county’s sole female commissioner.
Board of Commissioners chairman Alex Patton announced in June that, after nine years of service, he would be stepping down from his board member position with the Department of Social Services. During the meeting, he said that while he did not want to leave the board, his work commitment with Harris Teeter had become more demanding and sometimes conflicted with the board’s monthly meetings.
The Lincoln County Board of Social Services plans to determine officer elections and committee appointments as well as the 2014-2015 Fiscal Year agenda topics at an August meeting.
Lincoln County’s Board of Social Services will meet next at the Department of Social Services on E. Main Street on Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.
